1. Remove all debris and liquids from the garage floor area.

Obviously, a sure footing is crucial to safety. Oil would be the worst problem. If there is oil present, put down an absorbent substance and sweep it away completely. Granular substances such as salt or sand are also hazards to sweep away prior to the repair visit.

2. Make sure that there is adequate lighting inside the garage.

3. Make sure large items such as bicycles, garden tools and lawnmowers are clear of the garage door area.

4. Allow room in the driveway for the technician to park next to the garage door.

6. Do not open the garage door with the electric opener if the spring is broken!

Doing this may cause further damage. Some companies may not mind this from a revenue standpoint, but honest repair persons would advise not to open the door as usual. Best to wait until the technician arrives.

7. Have one of your remote control clickers in the garage.

8. Think of any other concerns there may be with the door.

Going on a wild goose chase to get the credit card or checkbook holds up progress. Find these prior to the visit, and make sure the credit card is signed and current. Pre-write the date and payee on check if known. If a coupon is part of the deal, have it there with the method of payment.

10. Ask about possible discounts if appropriate.

Sometimes, a better deal on your garage door repair can be cut near the end of the job, if it takes less time than anticipated.
