“Historical Development of Park Square” Kiosk, Four Seasons Hotel, Boston

The historic maps and photos on the this informational kiosk are etched and painted on titanium-plated stainless steel. The graphics were first chemically-etched into the metal in reverse (negative format) so that the image you see is the titanium (dark brown in color) and the background is etched away exposing the stainless steel. The photos were produced in the same way as mezzotints. After all the panels were etched, the colored areas were masked off and sprayed with translucent paints. The finished panels were bent around the kiosk and riveted in place.
