NoHo Senior Artists Community

Some people catch the creative bug early in life and never look back. For some people, it comes later. For many, perhaps most, the desire to be expressive remains latent, smoldering beneath the responsibilities of life until opportunity ignites it. At the North Hollywood facility, the chic new urbanist lofts house all of the above. Seniors can participate in a plethora of activities designed to stimulate, nurture, and sustain the creative spark. North Hollywood was once a somewhat neglected area in the valley, removed from the glitz and glamor of tinsel town. With the addition of a metro line and a renewed influx of people to the city of angels, NoHo has become a hip locale for all age groups.Liteblue USPS Gov Login At the NoHo facility, creative people over 62 can select from a wide offering of poetry, drama, improvisation, and visual arts classes.

Nalcrest, FL

You know how sometimes you’re at work and think to yourself, “Wouldn’t it be great if I could live with these people for the rest of my life?” Well, me neither, but I guess that’s because I’m not a letter carrier. Nalcrest (an acronym for National Association of Letter Carriers Retirement, Education, Security, and Training) is a retirement community exclusively for former employees of the United States Postal Service. In the 1970s, a strike by postal workers forced a number of innovative compromises to retain the workforce. One result was the purchase and establishment of a subsidized senior living locale that career employees could get into on the cheap. They are located in Polk County, Florida, east of Tampa, and it benefits from the abundant water features typical of that part of the sunshine state with a 15-acre lake for fishing and boating. It also has tennis courts, community centers, and all units are on the ground floor. Best of all, someone else delivers the mail.

Lasell Village

Lasell Village, located on the grounds of Lasell College in Newton, Massachusetts, gives a new meaning to seniors on campus. Lasell was established in the wake of the economic downturn of 2008 as an innovative way for the college to generate revenue. Lasell was not the first of the retirement communities to placing senior housing near a college campus, but they broke new ground by actually requiring their residents to attend class. At Lasell, the price of admission to the residences includes tuition for 450 hours per year. The place is full (with an extensive waiting list) of aging intellectuals and others interested in expanding their knowledge.
